Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife viewing is easy in Ouray. Deer and elk are in the vicinity year round. Black bears have been spotted in the autumn. Bighorn sheep live on the rocky cliffs above town and are often sighted during winter on 550.
In the high alpine areas, pikas and marmots are common. Occasionally, one finds a ptarmigan. Many birds frequent the area including humming birds.
During a road trip, entertain the kids with a checklist of the watchable wildlife as you drive through Colorado. You can also see more information on Wildlife viewing from the Division of Wildlife's own website.
