There are a variety of opportunities for pulling in that catch of a lifetime. Whether your preference is big rivers, the serenity of small alpine creeks or larger lakes, the immediate area surrounding Ouray has great fishing opportunities for everyone!

Take advantage of Ouray’s 285 sunny days a year. Enjoy fishing not only during the summer months, but also during our spectacular winter season.

There are four major rivers within a 30- to 60-minute drive from Ouray where browns, rainbows, cutbows, brook and cutthroat trout are just waiting for you to cast your line. In addition to these larger river sources, there are a number of creeks and high alpine lakes accessible only during the summer months.

The Ridgway State Recreation Area, only 20 minutes north of Ouray, is one of the newest and is considered to be one of the best parks in the state. The Ridgway Reservoir also has a full-service marina and lots of access points for excellent fishing and boating.

Our local Fly Shop and Guide service (RIGS) maintains a fish report for Western Colorado.  (Photo courtesy of RIGS)
