Photography

It doesn't take long for a first-time visitor to find the "magic" here in the mountains of Southwestern Colorado.

The best time to take photographs here in the mountains is the first two hours of daylight and the last two hours of the day before sunset. This type of sunlight helps to create good contrast and a beautiful color of light.

If you want to photograph wildlife, they are most active in the early morning and late afternoon.

The film of choice for great color prints is either Fuji or Kodak. But, if you want to take photographs using slide film, then I have found Fuji film to be the best.

If you're wondering where to go take pictures, check out our scenic drives page for places to get you started. And, don't forget you can get incredible close up pictures of ice climbing in the Uncompahgre Gorge from five scenic overlooks.
