Rock Climbing
Quote – Rock & Ice, January 2004, Issue
--“Ouray, Colorado, practically owns the patent on ice
and alpine climbing, but an untapped wealth of rock promises routes
enough to swell a guidebook.”
Although Ouray has been a mecca for ice climbers for years, it is
now being recognized by world-renowned climbers as having some of
the best rock climbing in Colorado. Over 150 climbs have recently
been developed in the Ouray area, most of which are single-pitch
sport climbs. There are some multi-pitch and traditional routes
as well.
It’s possible to rock climb year-round, weather permitting. Spring, summer and fall, however, are the best seasons. No matter what time of year you come for this challenging sport, a relaxing soak in the 108-degree mineral hot springs is a welcome relief when you return to the lodge.
