The Annual Sneffels Fiber Festival promises to be an eclectic mixture of art, music, food and fun.

fiberfest-10.jpgFocusing on all aspects of fiber and fiber arts, the festival will be a three day event held at the Ouray County 4H Events Center, featuring over 20 Fiber Artists with booths including clothing, scarves,  jewelry, buttons, fiber art supplies, yarn, and more!  Classes to sign up in advanced and FREE demonstrations including basic knitting.

Weehawken, a Colorado Non-Profit Organization (501-c-3), serves Ouray, Ridgway, Colona, Silverton and Montrose, providing high-quality arts education and personal growth programs and events to adults and children year-round. The Ouray County Sneffels Fiber Art Festival  is all about the many forms of fiber arts, from knitting and needlework to clothing and accessories. The event runs September 24 and 25, 2016 at the 4-H Events Center, a 5,000 square-foot state of the art facility located at the intersection of Hwys. 550 and 62 at the Ouray County Fairgrounds in Ridgway.

fiberfest4-1.jpgInkle Weaving Saturday Workshop: $70 with Rutheyi Zephyr from 9:30am to 11:00am at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO) Inkle Weaving has existed for hundreds of years, falling in and out of favor over the centuries. It was a weaving form that was almost lost until a strong “folk art” movement in the 1960’s when it found a new audience. Inkle weaving is easy to learn, easy to do but can yield beautiful woven items. All supplies provided by instructor will be for the students to keep. Supplies include: Tension adjusting Inkle Loom, one shuttle, 20 string heddles (students will learn how to make these), yarn for one warp and handouts.  Pre-register only 6 per class!

FREE Basic Knitting Demonstration: Cost: FREE from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO) Main floor.  Come with needles and yarn or purchase a packet at the festival and learn how to knit!

fiberfest5.jpgNeedle Felting Purse with Felted Dog: $45 with Monique Mullis from Felted Dog from 12:00pm to 2:00pm  at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO) The workshop is to use an appliqué technique to needle felt onto a wool clutch-style purse provided. The purse will be a handmade crocheted purse that is felted. The instructor will demonstrate a few needle-felting techniques and then participants will needle-felt their own design. It will be a very free-form workshop. Pre-register only 10 per class!

fiberfest3-1.jpgFREE Felted Dog Needle Felting Flower: Cost: FREE from 12:00pm  to 1:00pm at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO) Main floor.  Come learn how to create an amazing felted flower from the pros!

Double Knitting with Linda Borof: $45 with Linda Borof who owned a fiber arts shop in Oakland, CA for 21 years and another shop in San Francisco 2:30pm to 4:30pm  at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO)Double knitting is the art of knitting two sides of fabric at the same time on the same needle. In our class we will knit a scarf which has two stockinette sides each of which is a different color. The same effect can be created by knitting two separate stockinette pieces and sewing them together. We’ll create our scarf in half the time and with half the work. Pre-register only 10 per class!

Mitten Felting with Corn Creek Fiber Co: $45 with Corn Creek Fiber Co Joelle McCarthy who spins, dyes, knits, crochets and loves all things fiber from 12:00pm to 2:30pm at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO)This beginning felt class will teach students how to use a resist to felt 3D objects. Resist felting techniques can be applied to many other items, such as vessels, birdhouses, slippers, cat cocoons, bowls, and hats. We will be making a pair of mittens using merino wool. For fun, we will add silk on the outside; providing an introduction to nuno or fusion felting. I will include all the items needed for a complete pair of mittens. – wool, silk, resist, additional bubble wrap, soap*, sprinkle bottle, and tote.Pre-register only 10 per class!

FREE Needle Felting Brooch Pin with Linda Balas: Cost: FREE from 12:00pm  to 1:00pm at the 4H events Center (22739 Hwy 550, Ridgway, CO) Main floor.  Learn how to create a felted artwork pin with local artist Linda Balas from Montrose.
