grandmesasign.jpgLooking for a great day trip from Ouray for winter activities? Ever thought about Grand Mesa outside of Grand Junction? Grand Mesa has plenty to do in the winter with beautiful views, it’s worth the two-hour drive!

The GMNC (Grand Mesa Nordic Council) grooms over 32 miles of trails for cross-country skiing, skate skiing, and more! There are three trail systems available for use by the public:

grandmesa1.jpgSkyway Trail System – This trail system is groomed for both skate skiing and classic cross-country skiing. This is a great area to take lessons and to catch ski races. This area is family friendly, but not dog friendly. There is a warming hut about 100 yards from the trail head.

County Line Trail System – This trail is also groomed for classic cross country and skate skiing. It is a favorite for families and dogs, too! The trail is considered easier than most on the Grand Mesa.

grandmesaski.jpgWard Trail System – This trail system is groomed for classic cross country skiing and has access to some back-country skiing routes! Dogs are welcome here!

There are also designated areas for those who enjoy snowshoeing! These areas include: Mesa Lakes, Griffith Lakes, and Ward Lake.

Please note that snow bikes (fat tire bikes) are prohibited from Skyway, County Line, and Ward Trail Systems.

After a day exploring the many trails and views, nothing quite compares to a nice soothing soak in one of our all natural mineral hot spring tubs at the Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs. Give us a call, and let us help you plan your next adventure in Soutwest Colorado!
