Deciding on a Guided Horseback Ride

You couldn’t ask for a more perfect day to go horseback riding! The sun was shining, and it was a beautiful 76 degrees out. And so I decided there was no better time to go on adventure! I called Action Adventure Trail Rides, at which time Christine took my reservation over the phone. She made me feel very comfortable about not being an avid rider, and I began to get excited.

Meeting My Guide and Choosing a Horseback Riding Tour

Guided horseback riding in Ouray CO

When I arrived, a calm and knowledgeable cowboy named Eric introduced me to my horse Breego. After a rundown of directions from Eric, we were on the way!

We went on the two hour “Buckaroo Ride”. Above all, the views of the San Juan’s were utterly breathtaking. Breego and I followed Eric on his horse Hutchinson across Cutler Creek and down to a spectacular waterfall for a quick photo shoot.

What We Saw on Our Horseback Ride

One of the beautiful views in Ouray Co.At the base camp you are surrounded by Scrub Oaks and red dirt. Therefore, it is just amazing to see the transition of foliage as you continue to climb through the mountains. After thet, you pass by wild honeysuckle bushes, columbines, and mountain iris to name a few.

Eric was so knowledgeable not only about horses, in addition to the surrounding area. With a 360 degree view of Ouray, it really puts the history of Ouray into perspective. In particular when you are horseback riding past old abandoned mines and there is raw copper ore still visible in the tailings.

In conclusion, if you want my honest opinion about my experience, I would give it a 10/10 with the only negative being that your legs will feel it the next day.
