What a winter we have had in Southwest Colorado!
Snow has been light, but the temperatures have been perfect for ice, and the Ouray Ice Park is still open and waiting for you!
Last year, warm weather forced the Ice Park to close almost six weeks early. Ever vigilant, the volunteers and staff of the Ouray Ice Park closely monitor every climb in the park, ensuring the safety of climbers. Entering into March this year, prospects look good not only for a full season, but, weather permitting, the target date for closure this year is March 31! Obviously, this date is not set in stone. As mentioned above, the number one priority of everyone at the Park is safety. Still, this is great news for ice climbers everywhere. One more chance to explore the seemingly endless (over 150 to be exact) climbs in the Uncompahgre Gorge.
Established in 1992, the ice park has certainly evolved. A little ingenuity and teamwork, combined with imagination to bring the park to life, and every year since, the park has grown. Now boasting over three miles of vertical terrain, and over a mile long, the Ouray Ice Park is a premiere climbing destination, bringing enthusiasts from all over the world.
Don’t miss the experience of a lifetime. Whether new to the sport or a seasoned enthusiast, ice climbing in Ouray is an adventure for every bucket list!
