Take your child to the Ice Park this winter to learn Ouray’s favorite freezing activity. The Ouray Ice Park has partnered with San Juan Mountain Guides to offer two more days throughout this winter for kids to learn ice climbing from the experts for free.
The Kids’ Climbing College is first come, first serve from 10AM – 2PM for ages 8-17 on February 6th and March 5th. The beginner’s ice wall they utilize has nine routes that range from easy to more intermediate, so everyone will feel comfortable.
San Juan Mountain Outfitters provides everything your youngster needs to jump on the 40ft tall ice slab including invaluable guidance, harnesses, helmets, ropes, crampons, boots, and ice tools. All that you need to bring is warm clothing such as ski pants, a hat, and gloves. They will also need a guardian’s signature to allow them access to the college. San Juan Mountain Guides provide this service to teach our youth something invaluable.
For no cost, your child has the opportunity to mingle with world class athletes, receive step by step lessons from a professional, and gain appreciation for a lesser known, rewarding sport. Watch your wide-eyed child’s inspiration grow as they pass the larger adult gorge, and learn to pick their way to the top.
Give us a call at the Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs, and let us help make a weekend of fun out of it! Enjoy a day with family, learning from the best, then return to the hotel for a long soothing soak in our natural hot spring tubs!
