It was another beautiful day in Ouray. With the sun shining and deep blue skies, the desire to go outside and enjoy Southwest Colorado was overwhelming. There was no other option but to jump in the car and see what there was to see. Heading North toward Ridgway, we decided to see if we could make it all the way to Cow Creek, on County Road 12. Although we weren’t able to go further than a couple of miles, what beautiful drive it was!

Driving along the dry dirt road, the scenery is amazing. Farm houses and fields full of newborn calves dot the valley beneath mountain ranges still covered in springtime snow.

The road bends this way and that, providing a new vantage point at every glance.

cow28-1.jpgAnother curve in the road, and the road is a little muddy.

And how drastically different it seems when approached from a different angle.

April weather is always filled with surprises.

cow20-1.jpgThe day might start off overcast, then the sun will come out and seemingly melt way the clouds until a strong gust of wind blows an afternoon shower through the canyon, and by evening, there might be fresh snow on the ground.
